“WEAVING THROUGH A LABYRINTH”
August 19 – September 11

Textile installation
Julianna Joos, textile art

Vernissage August 19, 6-8 pm

In collaboration with La Triennale Internationale des Arts Textiles en Outaouais 2016

In this installation of Jacquard weavings, visitors are invited to stroll through a labyrinth of over-sized bats, slowly pivoting in a random rhythm.

Multidisciplinary artist

My goal is to tame life through art. I make art as I live; I ask questions, I follow quests, I share discoveries and I search for solutions. I am looking for a balance between the narrative and the formal, figuration and abstraction, emotion and idea, traditional techniques and new technologies, crafts and visual arts.

Julianna Joos lives and works in Montréal (Canada), where she has been an artist for forty years. Since 2004 her practice focuses on textile art: digital Jacquard weavings, digital printing on fibre, wearable art; her art making has gradually become multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary. She has been a professional printmaker, since 1980, creating mostly etchings, woodcuts and digital prints at Atelier Graff. She has presented over twenty solo exhibitions; the most recent ones were held at la Galerie d’art du Parc in Trois-Rivières in 2014, at la Galerie du Rift in Ville-Marie (Témiscamingue) in 2013 and at the Centre national d’exposition in Jonquière in 2012. Her works have been selected for more than two hundred international juried group shows. She has completed a Maîtrise ès arts (M.A.) Programme de maîtrise en arts plastiques, concentration création, Université du Québec à Montréal, in 1996. She presently teaches printmaking, drawing and digital art in the Fine Arts Department at Dawson College in Montréal. She has won two major international prizes:
- 2005 Purchase Award Premio Consorzio Brachetto d’Acqui: VIIème Biennale Internazionale dell’Incisione, ACQUI TERME, Italy
- 2002 First Prize Voir Grand, Biennale d’estampe grand format de l’Atelier Circulaire, MONTRÉAL, Canada
