Marie-Catherine Smith

Marie-Catherine Smith grew up in a bilingual French and English artistic household,
immersed in a rich collection of art literature. Early exposure to the masterpieces of
Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci sparked a lifelong fascination with classical
realism. As a child, she dreamed of traveling to Europe to study drawing and painting
like the masters — a dream she realized in early adulthood through intensive study in
France, focusing on contemporary classical techniques in drawing and oil painting from
life.
Further honing her skills in Ottawa, Canada, Marie-Catherine expanded her repertoire
to include watercolor, oil painting, life drawing, and children’s book illustration. She
works primarily in watercolor, oil, and pencil, and has been commissioned to create
portraits of people and beloved animals alike.
Her artistic achievements include scholarships and awards, participation in group
exhibitions in Montreal and Pontiac, Quebec, illustrating the cover of a local magazine in
Whistler, B.C., and authoring and illustrating a children’s storybook.
Beyond her artistic practice, Marie-Catherine brings over 20 years of customer service
experience in the hotel and coffee industries across Western Canada. These roles
helped her develop strong communication, hospitality, and leadership skills, which she
now channels into her role as Language Ambassador on the board of directors at Art
Pontiac, where she fosters inclusive communication and cultural exchange within the community.

Rhonda Morrison

As a fibre artist with 46 years of experience, Rhonda Sharpe Morrison brings a wealth of creative passion to her work, specializing in knitting and crocheting. This long-standing artistic practice complements a distinguished professional career of almost 25 years in Collaborative Economic Development. She has dedicated her career to fostering cooperation between different sectors—public, private, and civil society—to identify opportunities and drive economic growth.

Rhonda’s commitment to building community extends beyond the professional sphere and into the arts. As a founding member of the Pontiac School of the Arts (now known as the Stone School in Portage-du-Fort), she played a key role in creating a vibrant hub for creativity in the community. Her work is guided by the philosophy that shared resources and collective effort can build lasting success, whether through a collaborative development project or a handcrafted fibre art piece.
