Prior to painting, I immerse
myself in the place, capturing its essence in a series of quick sketches and then
deciding on main compositional elements. I am not a painter in the realism style.
Instead, I take care to search out the emotional and spiritual qualities of the place as
I experienced it. I paint with bold, vivid colours, maintaining a looseness of
brushwork, and trusting the spontaneity of my initial vision. I was mesmerized, spellbound, breathing in the landscape, absorbing her DNA. The rugged Algoma archipelago is spectacular especially in autumn dress.
