2011 Artists’ Residency Project
Last summer we had an outstanding week. Each day began with a different artist showing the group their portfolio and speaking about their motivation and inspiration. For the rest of each day, we travelled to different locations and made art together.
On Monday we made handmade paper, and Tuesday we went to Leslie Lake to take photos and sketch during a 10 Gates Dancing rehearsal. On Wednesday we went to a remote private beach on Calumet Island where we made woodcuts, painted, photographed, swam, and ate al fresco. Thursday we were at the Stone School learning a “wash-off” resist painting technique and painting on silk.
Each day included shared picnic lunches and potluck suppers at the homes of PAA members. Back at home, artists socialized, networked and worked into the night on the pieces begun that day.
On Friday, we completed artworks in preparation for the Vernissage that night at the Stone School Gallery.
The feedback we received from the visiting artists, the hosts, and the participating PAA members was all very positive.
We are proud to report that the PAA won a $1000 prize for the Residency Project at the 2011 Culturiade in Gatineau last November.
