Artful Update – August 27, 2024

  1. Member Updates:
    • Two of artPontiac’s members are participating in “Post-Marked”, a print exhibition currently running, and on until October 7, 2024 at the Connective Gallery, 35 Stafford Road, Bells Corners. This exhibition is a collaboration between members of the Ottawa Gatineau Printmakers Connective and the Manorhamilton Print Group in Ireland.  Each of the 18 artists created one base print, sent it off to their partner, and in turn, received an under print in the mail.  Then each artist printed overtop the one received.  The resulting artworks make for a fascinating exhibition of combined creativity.  The two Pontiac artists participating in this art show are Sylvia Bretzloff and Valerie Bridgeman.
    • Geraldine Classen and Ellen Schowater are having an exhibition at Café 349 from August 19 to September 28, 2024. If you’re in the area please stop in at the café and have a great meal and enjoy their art exhibition!
    • I teach watercolour painting at the recently renovated Ma-te-way Activity Centre on Tuesdays from 1 to 3pm. All supplies are provided and no experience is necessary.  Visit PaintWithPat.ca for details or you can call me at 613-433-6569 or email  theartfulpainter@gmail.com
    • Ruby Ewan has asked me to pass this along to our members: artPontiac members should have a look at this petition put out by RAAV, the Quebec branch of CARFAC.  This is a petition to MPs to take action to sign into law resale rights for artists.  Here is the link to get to the petition:   https://cdec-cdce.org/en/c/copyright-reform-now-tell-mps-to-take-action/
  1. Creative Gatherings: Our next Creative Gathering will take place on Sunday, September 15th from 10am until 12pm.  This gathering will be for 2 forms of art.  For those of you that are interested in networking and creating ‘in studio’ we invite you to join us at the Stone School Gallery.  Bring your art materials and snacks and create with fellow artists.  And for those of you that may want to paint outside, there will also be a group painting outside en plein air around the village of Portage du Fort!  We hope to see any of you, both members and non-members, that would like to get together, connect,  and make some art!  You can email me at theartfulpainter@gmail.com if you have any questions or would just like to let me know if you plan to join us.  This is a no-fee event.
  2. Newsletter Input: We are always looking for information relating to our members’ art journey that we can publish in upcoming ‘Artful Update’ newsletters.  So please email me at members@artpontiac.com with the information you’d like to share.
  3. Board Members/Volunteering: We are always looking for people to help us at artPontiac.  Many hands make light work and we need you.  Please consider signing up to be a volunteer but maybe even consider joining our Board.  A love and passion for the arts is the major qualification we seek, and also a desire to see artPontiac thrive and flourish as we move forward.  Please visit https://artpontiac.com/en/volunteerwithus/ to add your name to our list.
  4. Plein air painting update: This has been our 3rd year of plein air painting in Portage du Fort.  Besides our upcoming plein air session scheduled for September 15th, we are now winding down our weeking get-together for this season.  If you or someone you know is interested in joining us on Thursday mornings next summer please let me know.  Also, I’d like to know if there is another day of the week or weekend that might work better for you.  This activity is for both members and non-members, so please email me at theartfulpainter@gmail.com if you’d like to join us next season.
