Basic Bookbinding Techniques

June 7

with Valerie Bridgeman

Beginner

Learn basic bookbinding skills while making several journal structures for writing or sketching.
Participants will begin by decorating a cover to be used for one of the handmade books. Then you will make a couple of simple tools needed for binding books. Next, you will learn some basic bookbinding techniques as you work your way along the process, including the pamphlet stitch.

Several different types of notebooks can be made once you learn these basic techniques. Some examples are a single signature book with French spine, notebook with wrapped cover, and the double pamphlet notebook.

Participants will make several books to take home by the end of the day
