Love,Interrupted

Exhibitions:

Not all love stories unfold exactly as planned — and sometimes, that is precisely where their charm lies. It is with delight and admiration that we announce the Third Place award in The Spectrum of Love exhibition.
Marie-Catherine Smith’s Love, Interrupted captures a moment where romance meets reality in the most endearing way. A quiet countryside picnic becomes the stage for unexpected company, as a gathering of curious cows leans confidently into the foreground. Their gentle, inquisitive faces transform what might have been an intimate scene into something communal, humorous, and unmistakably alive.
Rendered in luminous watercolor washes, the pastoral landscape stretches softly across the canvas — rolling green hills, scattered hay bales, distant fencing, and open sky. The brushwork is tender and fluid, allowing light to breathe through the composition. Yet it is the cows themselves — their expressive eyes, tilted ears, and slightly mischievous presence — that animate the piece. Love here is not fragile or isolated; it exists within the natural world, within interruption, within laughter. The painting reminds us that love does not demand perfection — it thrives in the beautifully unscripted.
This work represents a spectrum of love that embraces humour, community, and the unexpected. It gently suggests that even interruptions can become part of the story we cherish most.
