A Perfect Opening Night! The Stone School came alive on Friday night as we opened our doors to artists and friends for our first Vernissage of the Season and a new collection of art and fine crafts in the Stone School Shop.
Jane Toller, Warden of the Regional Municipalities of the Pontiac (MRC), was on hand to say a few words, along with Lynne Judd-Cameron, Mayor of Portage-du-Fort. We were very pleased to welcome three representatives from Culture Outaouais, who, along with MRC, helped us host our Professional Development Day in May, for their first visit to the Stone School. ‘’
Ruby Ewen, the featured artist responsible for the amazing collection of paintings and sculptures, was very busy connecting with old friends and clients who came to view see sixty years of creativity captured on the walls of the Gallery. The room was humming, and everyone enjoyed the Vernissage. Don’t miss a chance to see this fascinating show!
You’ll also want to see the work we have in the Shop, both on the walls and shelves. We are thrilled to be re-opening for our second year of operation. You will find that many of our artists have returned but we also have a number of new artists and art forms. Special thanks to Linda Roy who spent many days at the Shop taking in the work and maintaining lists. Setting up is a big job but always worth it when we get such positive comments. We think you’ll find we have something to catch your eye and perhaps treat friends or family.
A final note. Portage is coming alive with a number of art destinations! This year we were delighted to be able to direct guests across the road and down the lane to visit ‘the Art Station’, a delightful collection of garden art and mosaics by artist and owner Frances Shea. The Art Station will be open on the weekends this summer or by appointment. So will that of Geraldine Classen, a founding member of artPontiac. You will find her work at the River Studio, just past France’s studio and cottage, in the large barn set on the edge of the river. We should also mention there is yet another gallery in town, on the walls of the large stone house by the bridge, owned by artist Caitlin Brubacher, who also offers framing and design services (Elephant in the Attic) on the premises.
