Exploring Non Toxic Etching

Objective

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills with non-toxic etching methods

 

 

Learning activities

Participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills with non-toxic etching methods. Students will learn about etching techniques that include line etching, etched textures and open bites. Printing with colour and chine collé will be done on various fine papers. The Stone School etching press will be used as variable editions are developed.

 

Materials supply fee to the instructor -$20.00 to $30.00 approximate

  • Aluminum etching plates
  • Blotter-newsprint
  • Registration sheet
  • Non-toxic etching materials
  • Alcohol
  • Glue
  • Etching inks

 

Materials List for students

  • Rubber gloves, paper towels, wax paper roll
  • Printmaking paper:

3 to 5 sheets (22×30”) 250 g appx- suggested brands: BFK Rieves, Stonehenge, Reviere

Thin coloured and found papers for chine collé

  • Various paint brushes
  • Sketchbook – 11”x14” 90 lb proofing paper (the kind you can tear the paper out)
  • Rags
  • Marker and pencil
  • Various paint brushes
  • Metal scriber or etching needle
